  Over the past decades, drugs have long played significant roles in dealing with diseases. With the help of globalization and advanced technologies, a variety of medicine is introduced and now help patients in hospitals. In spite of its benefits, however drug addiction is one of the most significant problems in our societies. This essay will explain the causes and effects on the misuse of medicine.

  It is stated that main reasons of drug addiction are depression and easy access to mediation. Hopkins(2009) states that drugs offer temperary relief on stress. Nowadays the majority suffer from much stress in workplaces and it leads to depression. As a temporary solution, doctors prescribe medicine and let patients release stress. However, patients keep dependent on drugs if main causes of their stress are not removed. Furthermore, easy access to medication bring about the addiction. There are many pharmacies to purchase drugs without any prescription. Regardless of intention, local residents are exposed to medication addiction.

  As the results of these causes, both mental and physical health are destroyed. Suzuki(1998) points out that drug addiction contributes to the damage in body and mind. In fact, over medicating are harmful especially to the brains and drug adducts suffer from malfunction by damaged brains such as loss of memory. Furthermore, addicted patients are more violent and have higher possibilities to become criminals. As a result, drug addictions are detrimental to soul and bodies.

  In conclusion, depression and easy medication result in drug addiction, which consequently leads to destruction of lives. Therefore, it is recommend that governments should strictly limit the use of medicine. As the same time, they should integrate drug addicts back into communities.
